Ste Daley makes Prescot Cables vow as Northern Premier League ‘fear’ claim made

Steven Daley after City of Liverpool win

Ste Daley insists that Prescot Cables are looking to continue to mix with the Northern Premier League West title favourites.

The Bulls maintained their space at the top of the table as they held challengers Stalybridge Celtic to a draw last time out. The away point ensured that their unbeaten run extended to 10 matches.

Their last league defeat came in mid-September when Clitheroe ran out 2-0 winners at the Joseph Russell Stadium. Since then, Cables have won seven and drawn three establishing themselves at the summit – eradicating their early concerns.

“Stalybridge are a good team and will be there or thereabouts,” Daley told Off The Park. “It was a good game and could’ve went either way, a draw was a positive result.

“This league is small margins, the teams that are in the league, bottom can beat top, there’s not a lot in it so you have to be on it every single game.

“We’ve played some teams towards the top end now, it does show that we can compete with anyone, at the minute we’re getting the better of them – as league positions shows – long may it continue.”

The fixture list in December has become synonymous with determining whether teams sink or float.

For the league leaders, their New Year run-in is among the trickiest. Cables are scheduled to travel to playoff rivals Avro and Runcorn Linnets, as well as home encounters Leek Town and Mossley before kicking off 2024 at home to Bootle.

Daley added: “You’ve got to keep putting points on the board, we’ve got a tough December but again, it’s one we’re looking forward to – there’s no teams in the run that we’re shying away from.

“We’re looking forward to playing them and testing our wits against them, we’ll be in every game and looking to take three points in every one.

“Early on in August, we lost our opening two games and a lot of that was down to a bit of naivety.

“As a team, with results come confidence and we’re probably more confident now because we’re gaining experience game by game. We’re better equipped for the likes of Avro – who are a really, really tough team.”
