Ste Daley wants a reaction from Prescot Cables as they bid to return to winning ways.

Avro ran out 2-0 winners against the Bulls to complete a league double over the Northern Premier League West promotion-chasers. The defeat ended Cables’ unbeaten run as they slipped four points behind league leaders Leek Town.

Despite the disappointing result, reflecting on the performance Daley admitted that his side were second best against the Greater Manchester side.

“We didn’t deserve to win the game on the day and it’s always an opportunity missed when you lose a game,” he told Off The Park.

“To be honest, they deserved to win but the overall performance, they were the better team, sometimes you’ve got to dust yourself down and go again.

“Over the two games, they’ve done a number on us and fair play, they’re a very good team. I was a little bit disappointed in our performances because we had too many below par performances from the lads but we’ve been on a good run – we have to dust ourselves down and move on.”

Mossley visit the Joseph Russell Stadium on Saturday to kick off the Christmas and New Year schedule. Cables then face back-to-back derbies when there they face fellow playoff rivals Runcorn Linnets before hosting Bootle.

With the lessons of their defeat the Vestacare Stadium and the memories of the opening day defeat at Mossley, Cables need to be “100 percent at it”, Daley says.

He added: “Once you have a defeat, you want to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

“Mossley are a good team, they beat us earlier in the season, they showed some good qualities and although they’re not in the position they’d like to be, we know what they’re like.

“We need to be 100 percent at it to get anything out of the game, if you’re not at the races at this level you become unstuck. It’s an opportunity but we know we need to be at it.”

As the fixtures begin to turnaround and the reverse fixtures emerge, reflecting on the season so far Daley admits that he would “bitten your hand off” to be in the position they find themselves but with the work that has gone into the campaign so far, it’s far from a concern.

“Within the group, we know what we can do. I’d be lying if I thought we’d be second going into the Christmas period  – I’d have bitten your hand off,” Daley continued.

“The lads have worked really hard and it’s not much of a surprise what we’re doing but it’s nice to be where we are, we have to keep knuckling down, getting points on the board and after Christmas, the league separates itself and you see where you are.”
