Michael Ellison addresses form as Widnes ‘have to do more’

Widnes manager Michael Ellison.

Michael Ellison is looking for consistency from his side as Widnes look to return to winning ways.

The Whites suffered a humbling defeat away at Hednesford United as the relegation strugglers ran out 3-0 winners.

The disappointment compounded a difficult run that brought just one win in their last five.

“We haven’t amassed the points we probably should have,” Ellison told Off The Park. “The games against Leek and Clitheroe we probably should’ve got a point out of them, a couple of mad moments cost us.

“The game against Hednesford was really disappointing, it was one of the few occasions that we were second best, even when we’ve lost games and not been on great runs, on Saturday it was an unacceptable performance that I didn’t expect.

“We’ve gone from being solid and I think we’ve conceded seven in our last three, all have been poor, there’s things we need to improve on. We’ve had big players missing and injuries, like every club has, we’ve got to do more.”

They take on Mossley this weekend at the DCBL Stadium looking to return to winning ways and reignite their aspirations of making a late surge into the playoffs.

He said: “We’ve been decent at home, it’s about consistency. We go into every game and we feel on our day, if we turn up, we can beat anybody and we’ve proven that we can compete but the key words are ‘if we turn up’.

“Good sides do that, they’re consistently good week in, week out and we’ve come away from that, it’s our job as a management team to sort it out but we’re looking forward to it, we’ll go into Saturday looking to get a result which is what we’ve done all season.”
