Ste Daley speaks out on Prescot Cables form ahead of Clitheroe and Runcorn Linnets showdown

Steven Daley after City of Liverpool win

Prescot Cables manager Ste Daley was left pleased with their midweek win over Chasetown – as they look to continue their momentum.

The Bulls moved second in the Northern Premier League West after Nathan Koehler scored the only goal in their win on Tuesday.

Runcorn Linnets were held at home by Nantwich Town on Friday, reducing the gap to just one point but a win for Cables over Clitheroe could create a four-point cushion ahead of their showdown with Linnets on Monday.

“It’s always good to respond in a positive way, especially after Leek,” Daley told Off The Park.

“The performance wasn’t really reflective in the scoreline but they’re a top team, got the job done but to bounce back against a team like Newcastle Town was a massive win.

“They beat us away from home, a big and physical team, there was factors that we had to contend with, we controlled the game from start to finish, it was a good performance without playing eye-catching football.”

He added: “A 1-0 is a great result, it’s a clean sheet and it gives us momentum going into the weekend fixtures, there are eight points between us and sixth but we feel there is work to be done. We have to keep going and keep picking up points.

“They’re all good teams in there and a few teams just below it who are all chasing, there’s a lot up for grabs but we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves. We can’t control what others do, we concentrate on what we can then what will be, will be come the end of the season.

“We know we’ve got a massive game against Runcorn on Monday but you can’t overlook Clitheroe. They’re a very good team and they’re still there or thereabouts, I don’t think anyone has ever gone there and expected anything other than a tough game.

“We have to concentrate on them, we need to implement what we do well and hopefully we’ll have enough to get the result that’s needed. They’re a strong team, pose a threat and will be fighting for the same thing we are.”
