Ste Daley sends Prescot Cables demand ahead of Witton Albion crunch match

Prescot Cables were left frustrated after their recent draw with Hanley Town but Ste Daley has called on his players to bounce back against in-form Witton Albion.

The Bulls were forced to settle for a point last time out as their winless run extended to three matches. Matty Devine handed Cables the lead on the half-hour mark but their advantage lasted a mere six minutes before Dylan Scott equalised for the visitors.

As a result of the point, Cables slipped to third in the table but they still have a four-point cushion in third and sit a point behind Runcorn Linnets, who leapfrogged them last weekend.

“They came with a gameplan, they slowed the game down and made it very difficult,” Daley told Off The Park. “They played on the counter-attack and set-plays, we scored and looked in a good position, if we got another I think it would’ve been comfortable but we give a scrappy goal away.

“They come and got what they were aiming for, it was frustrating for us and we still had enough chances in the game.”

Despite the difficult run in recent weeks, the table currently isn’t the focus at the Joseph Russell Stadium. Cables have enjoyed a strong campaign so far and head into the business end of the season in a good position but Daley insists that their focus must be on themselves. He added: “The league is so tight, it happened the other week when Runcorn Linnets went ahead of us and changed very quickly.

“We’ve got ourselves in a great position, it’s the business end of the season, it’s just about putting points on the board and seeing where it takes us.”

Witton Albion are on the crest of a save and have surprised many after finding themselves in as low as 14th. Prescot Cables inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Jon Macken’s side in their last meeting but the two encounter at Wincham Park in contrasting form.

The Cables boss is excited to come up against the Albion, after they picked up 22 points from their last 10 matches. He said: “Going off the last six games, Witton are second in the form table, they’ve found it at the right time and they’re a good team.

“It’ll be a close, tight game but one we’re looking forward to. Each game is different, as long as we stick to our gameplan and execute it, more often than not, we’ll come away with the points we deserve.”
