Ste Daley fires warning as Prescot Cables prepare for Vauxhall Motors showdown

Prescot Cables manager Ste Daley.

Ste Daley has warned his Prescot Cables players to expect a fired-up Vauxhall Motors when they clash on Friday.

The Bulls welcome their Merseyside rivals looking to continue their winning run, and keep the pressure on league leaders Leek Town.

A showdown with the Staffordshire club is to come on Tuesday but ahead of the upcoming weekend of fixtures, Cables against Motors kicks off proceedings.

Danny Holmes replaced Mick McGraa as the manager at the VanEupen Stadium, following his move to Bootle.

It’s been a good start for the former Newport County, AFC Fylde and York City defender but results have taken a downward turn in recent weeks as they suffered three successive defeats.

“Every game we go into, there’s no team we’re fearful of – we respect them and understand if we’re not at it, you can slip up,” Daley told Off The Park. “We go into the Vauxhall game with the same mentality as we will against Leek, we’ll be looking for three points. It’s an opportunity, we’ve got to fight for everything we can.

“They’ll always look for a reaction, they’re a decent team and under the new manager, they started off bright but had a bit of a slip.

“This league has shown if you take anything for granted, you’ll slip up. We’ve got to keep our concentration levels and if we stick to what we’re good at, we’re a match for any team and if we’re at our best, we’ll come away with the points.”

Leek have turned on the style since their humbling 5-0 defeat away at Runcorn Linnets and have created daylight at the top of the Northern Premier League West.

The festive period brought nine points from a possible 12 for Cables, including an emphatic 5-3 win.

He added: “It was disappointing that we dropped points against Runcorn because on the day, although it was flat, we were the better team.

“We controlled the game but we had five minutes of madness, in this league can catch up with you and that happened. Overall, we’re pleased that we put points on the board, we’re in a really good position.

“We were outstanding against Mossley, everything we done from start to finish was good. We controlled the game against Bootle, the first-half was quite even but then we came out second-half and controlled.

“We had all the ball against 1874 Northwich but we wasn’t at our best by any means. We got the job done and sometimes when a team sits in, the way they do, it’s frustrating – credit to them – but on another day it could be four or five.

“If you put a couple of games together, you’re right in the mix, on the other hand, a couple of defeats and you’re dragged back in. You’ve got to take one game at a time, the lads are in a good place and we’re in a good place.”
