Prescot Cables manager Ste Daley has reiterated that their standards can’t slip after Tuesday’s defeat to Leek Town.

Marc Grocott’s 63rd-minute goal was the difference for Josh Brehaut’s side to help them move 10 points clear at the top.

Despite the defeat, there were positive signs from a Cables perspective. They enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, although lacking cutting edge, Daley believes the good results will come.

This weekend the Bulls host Hanley Town looking to return to winning ways, following back-to-back defeats. Their showing against Leek was an improvement on their humbling defeat to a resurgent Newcastle Town.

He told Off The Park: “We certainly have (got a lot still to play for), that’ll come, I’ve got confidence in these boys. The performance against Leek will tell you a lot about them and we’ve just got to go again.

“It’s not new to us, we lost the first two games of the season and then we got ourselves into an excellent situation, we’ve got to do it again. We’ve got good players, a good team, we have to keep knocking them down and we believe the results will come.

“At this level as much as you have the ball, you’ve got to break team down. It’ll be difficult, they’re fighting for their lives but they’re not a bad team. We expect a tough game and got to focus on us, knuckle down and try get three points.

“The expectations in the dressing room and you can see the disappointment with each game we don’t win, it tells us where we are. Things didn’t go our way (on Tuesday) we’ve just got to bounce back.”
