Marine performance imperative at Kidsgrove Athletic, says Neil Young

Marine striker Niall Cummins celebrates after netting a hat-trick against Market Drayton

Marine boss Neil Young is expecting a difficult Kidsgrove Athletic test when they visit on Saturday.

The Mariners still have their sights set on promotion whilst they breath down Workington’s neck with the gap at the top separated by just a point.

But Young has heaped importance on the performance of his side as they head to Shropshire.

He told Off The Park: “Good team, when we beat them one of our best performances of the season but always a difficult place to go.

“Think Workington went there at the start of the season and struggled – equalised late on. They’re very competitive, good players, John Johnson from Chester, away from home it’ll be a difficult game.

“There’s no easy games particularly at the back end of the season. There’s 10 games to go, they’ll be looking to beat us, their home record is very good.

“We’ll have to make sure we’ve prepared right, we go there and put a performance in.

“I’m just a big believer on what we can do, we go in and put a performance in, then they’ll need to be on their mettle to put a performance in.

“Likewise, we have to be right we can’t be a little bit off it. Hopefully this bit of a break will give us an opportunity to get up to full fitness.

“We’ve got 10 games to go, 10 big games, it’s a proper run in and we play Saturday then not for a bit so we need to make sure we put three points on the board and let everyone else do what they need to do.”
