Marine 4-0 Atherton Collieries: Campbell treble sinks Colls

Marine vs Atherton Collieries match report

A goal from Kielen Adams and a Hayden Campbell hat-trick helped Marine cruise past Atherton Collieries.

The former Salford City attacker doubled his tally for the season firing Neil Young’s side into a two-goal first-half lead after just under half-an-hour before securing the match ball three minutes into the second-half.

Adams scored his first goal of the league campaign as the powerful forward capped off an impressive performance.

It was a slow start for the Mariners as they adjusted to their opposition but just 14 minutes into the meeting. Campbell waltzed into the 18-yard box and guided his header into the far corner, off the post, from Sean Smith’s cross.

Shortly after, their lead was doubled and it was Campbell again. Johnny Spittle flicked on Jordan Lussey’s long throw-in for the 20-year-old to get on the wrong side of his marker and poke through Nico De Freitas-Hansen’s legs.

On the stroke of half-time, the clash was practically wrapped up. Colls were careless in their own half, Adams played a neat one-two with Smith and the striker raced through powering the ball home at the near post.

Just two minutes after the restart, Marine had a fourth and Campbell had his hat-trick. Lussey’s long throw was miscued into the midfielder’s path on the left, he volleyed the ball across the face of goal for Gaz Peet to inadvertently clear off the attacker and into the back of the net.

Marine saw the game out, returning to winning ways for the first time in four league games. As a result, they move up to 14th going into their trip to FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
