‘We’re not far off’ – Gary Moore offers Lower Breck insight as Wythenshawe Town demand made

Lower Breck after scoring vs Congleton

Lower Breck manager Gary Moore says they aren’t far away but they must give a complete performance against Wythenshawe Town.

It’s been an indifferent run for the Breck after picking up a win, draw and suffering a late defeat against Congleton Town.

They travel to promotion-chasing Wythenshawe Town on Saturday looking to dent their aspirations. Last time the two sides met, they comprehensively beat the title hopefuls.

Connor Rankin scored twice as Connor McCarthy and Tom McNamara also contributed to a surprise victory for the Anfield side.

Speaking to Off The Park, Moore said: “We stopped their run early in the season, it was an unbelievable performance that night but we know how good they are. They’re chasing a promotion place or get in the playoff, they’ve had a few bumps in the road but nine in the last two.

“The frailties are there, four-nil up, four-one and they end up winning five-four but then they go and dispatch AFC Liverpool. The league is unforgiving, every manager will tell you, anyone can beat anyone, we know what we’ve got to do but we know how tough it’ll be.

“They’ll be up for it, they’ve made a couple of changes but it’s all about us, what we do on on the day, we’ve had a few patches where we haven’t give a full 90 – we’ll certainly have to give one against Wythenshawe if we’re to get anything out of Saturday.”

Despite Jawad Jebrin’s early goal against Congleton, the Bears fought back and completed the comeback in stoppage time. Breck managed to bounce back against Irlam but had to fend off an onslaught from the hosts to claim a point after being reduced to 10 men.

“We just can’t get that consistency, it was a good performance against Charnock,” Moore added. “The first-half, we were very good, the second-half it was a horrible day for weather but we came out with it in our faces, it was tough to get going and got the late goal which was great.

“We got a clean sheet which is always a positive then against Congleton, we just didn’t get going. We didn’t deal with their bombardment, first 15 we were okay but then they just absolutely peppered us.

“They were the far better side on the day, we were very wasteful and we took the lead, it’s one of those things, you’ve got to build on it but we just did too many things wrong, you’ve got to be clever against sides like that, rushing throw-ins, playing out quick when there was no need to.

“The gutting thing was another 90 minute plus goal against us, that was a blow. Irlam, another clean sheet, it wasn’t a great spectacle then we came out in the second-half really good, we had a man sent off so it was backs against the wall, we still had two great counter-attacking opportunities but it’s just that little detail. Last six games we’ve had three clean sheets. We know where we are and what we need to change but at the same time, we’re not far off.”
