‘We’ll be up for it’ – Lower Breck looking for ‘big reaction’ against Penistone Church in the FA Cup

Lower Breck Jon Swatton celebrates opening the scoring vs Vauxhall Motors

Lower Breck manager Gary Moore is looking for a reaction from his side this weekend against Penistone Church in the FA Cup.

It is the third meeting between the two after they met at this stage of the competition last year which went to a replay, where Lower Breck came out on top.

They go into this weekend’s cup tie off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Vauxhall Motors.

Despite taking the lead through Jon Swatton, Motors fired back with two second half goals to hand Lower Breck defeat in their first home match.

But this weekend poses an opportunity for Moore’s side to get back on track after a frustrating outing on Thursday.

“We know about them, we played them twice last season. We know all about them, don’t know how much has changed – we know the managements changed – but we’ll be good. We’ll get them up for it,” he told Off The Park.

Against Mick McGraa’s Vauxhall side, Lower Breck had their opponents on the backfoot in the opening 45, but couldn’t follow it up in the second half. When asked what he is looking for this weekend, Moore said: “(A) Big reaction, bit more quality in possession of the ball. Without the ball the legs are there, you seen towards the end we created three, four, five and I think besides Kieran Holsgrove’s header they’re half chances. We had our moments but take out hat off to Mick and Vauxhall they were the better side.

“You’re there to play football at the end of the day, you can run, run and run but we’ve got to have that bit more creativity and that’s something we’ve got to look for. We’ve had it in patches, we’ll hold our hands up we wasn’t perfect in pre-season but we got the result it’s just something for us to work on.”
