‘Threw it away twice’ – Gary Moore left devastated after Lower Breck capitulation vs Padiham

Lower Breck concede as Hoskin scores for Padiham

Lower Breck manager Gary Moore says their draw with Padiham “feels like a defeat”.

The Breck had a two-goal lead twice in their game against the Storks but Ben Hoskin’s treble ensured the spoils were shared.

Jawad Jebrin rounded Matthew Hamnett and Moore’s side looked to be on course to claim the points. However, the hosts conceded two penalties in just four minutes in the dying minutes of their encounter.

The defender, Hoskin, convincingly converted both his penalties, completing his hat-trick after halving the deficit before the hour-mark with a superb glancing header.

“Feels like a defeat, doesn’t it? To concede two late goals anyway but to be 2-0 up, 2-1 then you go 3-1 up to kill the game but you they got a pen so soon and it’s trying to manage it then,” Moore told Off The Park.

“We have a kick-off for the goal, we put it out for a throw-in, it gets lumped in and it’s the next pen – it’s comical really. We’ve just not managed the game, not managed it at all. Tough, that feels like a defeat especially after the Avro one, took the point because they were good.

“Tonight, we weren’t great, they were the better side first-half but if we had that bit more quality we could get a second goal, we have but ultimately killed ourselves.”

MATCH REPORT: Lower Breck 3-3 Padiham: Hat-trick hero Hoskin haunts Breck

The slump follows an emerging trends for the Breck as they relinquished a three-goal lead against AFC Liverpool in the Liverpool Senior Cup. On Friday, a stoppage-time goal from Avro denied a win for the Breck.

And on Tuesday, the salvo of spot-kicks ensured that their wait for a win stretched to five games. The Breck boss added: “The AFC one the other week, to be 3-0 up and lose 4-3 that was the eye opener, so to go 3-1 up on the back of Avro you’ve got to learn the lesson.

“Listen, we haven’t seen the penalties back, but it’s how you manage that, as soon as it goes 3-2 you’ve got to manage it then when it goes to 3-3 you’re worried and waiting for that whistle. It’s just poor, poor.

“You take a point from it because you’ve got something from it. Ultimately, it’s one of those you go away scratching your head and it says it all to concede two penalties in four minutes… we were going to make a sub when we went 3-1 and he said 10 minutes to go we were baffled because he just said four, the next minute they’ve got a penalty.

“Listen, that’s a tough one to take, it’s going to feel like a defeat especially after Avro. You can’t come out of there with too many positives because of how we finished, we’ve got to try pick them up for Saturday, another tough game,” he continued.

“If” we would’ve won, we would’ve went six points clear of Padiham, we said to them we don’t want to focus on last season but we don’t want to finish in that area again, to do that you’ve got to beat Padiham and Squires Gate, they’re in and around us so to be 3-1 that’s a massive opportunity lost.

“There’s still a few positions higher that we’re seriously looking, we’ve got a target and we want to hit it but you’re not going to hit it drawing games that you’re winning 3-1 in or 2-0.

“You can’t do that but there’s a bit of an issue there now, we’ve had clean sheets, battled teams and let standards drop for some season. I thought we were poor first-half, way off it all over and glimpses in the second-half, we’ve done the hard work to get a good lead and threw it away twice.”
