Lower Breck 3-3 Padiham: Hat-trick hero Hoskin haunts Breck

Lower Breck 3-3 Padiham Match Report

A four-minute collapse in the dying minutes saw three points slip through Lower Breck’s grasp as Padiham centre-back Ben Hoskin was the unlikely hero with a hat-trick.

Connor Rankin scored twice for the Breck before Jawad Jebrin restored their advantage after Hoskin halved the deficit with a superb glancing header.

The hosts looked to be cruising to three points but two penalties in four minutes handed the Storks an opportunity to get back into the game.

Hoskin made no mistake firing down the middle before curling his second penalty into the bottom corner to complete his treble and earn an unlikely point.

An uneventful first-half saw the Breck take a one-goal lead into the break. Rankin latched onto a through ball before leaving Matthew Hamnett in his wake and tapping into an empty net.

After the restart, it was almost a carbon copy of the opening goal. McCarthy’s lofted pass in behind caused confusion in the back line, this time the Breck forward capped the move with an exquisite lob.

The two-goal advantage was short-lived as Hoskin got his first of the night. The defender’s glancing header nestled in the top corner to restore hope for the travelling fans.

Substitute Jack Price came close to equalising but after the cutback and the goal at his mercy, he rattled the bar.

But with just four minutes of normal time remaining, Jebrin slotted home to restore their advantage. Macauley Clifton was the architect after a superb first touch before setting the forward through who rounded the goalkeeper and tapped in.

Breck looked set to claim the three points and move six points clear of their opponents. However, first bar came to the hosts rescue but in the after match, Theo Roberts was adjudged to have fouled.

Despite making connection with the spot kick with his legs, it wasn’t enough after Hoskin powered the effort down the middle from 12 yards.

Just four minutes later, the ball was on the penalty spot again. Roberts look to sweep a loose bouncing ball but clattered the attacker leaving the referee no option but to award a spot-kick.

The Breck goalkeeper guessed the right way but Hoskin struck the penalty true, curling into the bottom corner past the desperate dive to secure his hat-trick and ensuring they added a point to their tally.
