The Liverpool Senior Cup will return for the 2022/23 season, the Liverpool County FA have confirmed.
The illustrious cup competition returns for the first time following COVID after the 2019/20 edition was curtailed as a result of the pandemic.
Despite football returning across the region, last season, the tournament did not return despite calls from fans and clubs. Regional competitions returned across the North West as Liam Watson’s side won the Lancashire Challenge Cup.
On Friday, the LCFA confirmed the return of the tournament with 19 teams set to feature. Those involved vary in divisions with clubs ranging from the North West Counties to the Northern Premier League to the National League North to the Football League and Premier League.
Reigning champions from 2019 and 12-time winners Southport return as Everton and Tranmere Rovers will also be represented.
It’s likely that the Blues and Rovers will use the competition to field their youngsters.
Two-time winners and runners-up against the Yellows last time, Prescot Cables, also return to the draw.
Whilst Runcorn Linnets enter the competition for the first time.
Liverpool will not feature in the tournament but Off The Park understands that there have been positive discussions with the LCFA and the Reds.
At this stage, there is little information available with the round dates and competition entries disclosed.
The format of the competition, rules and draw will be revealed next week.
