Liverpool Business Houses Division Four Winners 2020/21: Algarb FC

Algarb celebrate winning the league

Algarb FC pipped Hyper Bar to the Division Four title thanks to their important 2-1 win over their nearest challengers at the end of May.

Their season ended with back-to-back walkover wins but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the Algarb as they will play in Division 3, next season.

But their title triumph came after they occupied top spot for the majority of the season with Hyper Bar and Heron Nicosia pushing to dethrone them.

Their final match came during a thrilling 3-3 draw with Woodstreet as they found themselves 2-0 down early on.

But the comeback, spearheaded by Josh Cavanagh’s double, ensured that they didn’t leave without a point.

Thomas Lipson told Off The Park: “(We’re) absolutely buzzing to win the league in our first season together, (I’m) so proud of the whole team and all their hard work and effort. Hopefully, many more trophies to come.

“We had to take it one game at a time but we always had a focus on the end goal of winning the league, as we were top most of the season it added more pressure every game but we stayed focused.”

The 21-year-old added: “There’s been a couple of games this season where it could’ve changed the outcome but thankfully we pulled through some tough games, beating a top side like Hyper twice in the season were probably the games that won it in the end.

“Also one against Woodstreet a few weeks ago we had to fight back after 2-0 down and dug deep when we had to.

“It’s been a belter first season together and very tough games along the way but finishing top has made us want more.”
