Litherland REMYCA 1-2 FC Isle of Man: REMY rue missed opportunities as Ravens collect points

MATCH REPORT image for Litherland REMYCA vs FC Isle of Man

FC Isle of Man came from behind to hand Litherland REMYCA their second defeat of the season thanks to goals from Ste Whitley and Jack Camarda after Johnny Foy opened the scoring.

The REMY couldn’t bounce back from their defeat to Bury AFC on the opening day but can feel hard done by to not come away from Litherland Sports Park with a point.

FC Isle of Man had the first opening as Ronan McDonnell raced onto a through ball following sloppy play from the hosts but Ryan Jones was equal to the effort, denying the forward with his legs.

Three minutes later, Foy opened the scoring. The forward maneuvred himself into a pocket of space before shifting it inside onto his right-foot before curling towards the top right corner, although there was a stroke of fortune as a deflection saw it look beyond Dean Kearns.

However, their lead was shortlived after Whitley turned the ball home at the back post after Lee Gale flashed a cross across the face of goal.

REMY looked to regain the lead and had two golden chances to restore their lead. Firstly through Jamie McDonald whose first-time effort was parried by the Ravens shot-stopper.

George Lomax then sprung the offside trap from Kieran Halligan’s through ball but he failed to beat the Isle of Man number one as he raced through one-on-one.

The two teams went in at the break level but immediately after the restart full-back Luke Denson saw his speculative strike rattle the inside of the post.

And it was the visitors who take the lead when Camarda expertly picked out the bottom corner with his first-time effort from Jack McVey’s cut-back.

They came close to a third but defender Sean Quayle saw his glancing header a whisker away from the top-right corner.

As the hosts looked to level the scoring, they had the visitors under sustained pressure.

McDonald’s side probed as they looked for an equaliser firstly through Halligan but the attacker couldn’t steer his header on target. Defender Jamie Hay had two great opportunities, the first of which saw him rise highest from Denson’s corner only to see it cleared off the line after a heroic piece of defending from McDonnell on the line.

Minutes later, the defender ghosted towards the backpost and despite having a free header, he couldn’t test Kearns.

The hosts continued to push for a leveller but FC Isle of Man stood firm and earned a hard-fought three points.

FC Isle of Man pick up their first win and points of the season, whilst it’s straight defeats for REMY following their 1-0 defeat to Bury AFC.
