‘It’ll be a tough game’ – Skem United face difficult Irlam FA Cup trip

Skem United face a tough trip to Irlam in the Extra-Preliminary Round of the FA Cup as they look to recreate their run to the first round last year.

Paul McNally’s side defied all expectations to reach the first round proper of the competition where they were beaten by League Two side Harrogate Town.

Marine matched that and pushed through to the third round to steal the headlines.

But the task of facing fellow North West Counties side Irlam is one that excites McNally, but notes they will be fired up as Skem embark on their third consecutive away tie.

Coming into the match Skem boast six points out of a possible six after beating Runcorn Town 4-2 and Charnock Richard 3-1.

“We’re looking forward to it, another away game, our third on the bounce. So we’re getting used to playing away from home it’ll be a tough game,” he told Off The Park.

“It’ll be a tough place to go, they’ll raise the game, they’re at home they’ll be fancying their chances.

“I’m anticipating a tough game, we’ll be going there, showing them the greatest respect but hopefully we get a win and get through to the next round.

“We set our standards so high last year, we’ve just got to keep doing what we’re  doing and the players will step up to the plate they will do it. The players are good enough to execute the game plan.”
