Gary Moore reflects on Lower Breck season as Isle of Man incentive outlined

Gary Moore has revealed that there is extra importance on Lower Breck’s trip to the Isle of Man.

They make the trip across the Irish Sea after their original fixture earlier this month was postponed.

The Breck end their campaign on a high as they look set to achieve their highest finish in the North West Counties Premier Division. While the chances of securing a place in the playoffs was slim, although mathematically possible, Moore was pleased with how they responded to their end of season run-in.

He told Off The Park: “Every month you start fresh, we had four games but the target was set – three of those were home games.

“We knew we hadn’t beaten Padiham so you’re setting targets – that’s what we’ve been doing week to week, there was a target of the playoffs and while it was mathematically possible, it was still in sight but you needed a miracle.

“We want the game to mean something because we’ve had a good season from October onwards, we didn’t want it to fall away and at one stage, we could’ve ended up in 16th or 18th with the games in hand team had on us but we’ve done really well to claw the games and points back. To win three games in April, with a fourth to come, can’t ask for much more.”

Only playoff hopefuls Wythenshawe Town have bettered Lower Breck in the last six games and their trip to The Bowl on Saturday could see them complete an unbeaten month in the league for the first time.

As well as that incentive, there is an extra feeling as a win for Isle of Man would see them leapfrog the Anfield club.

He said: “We were top of the form guide in January/February but we have never completed the month unbeaten, that’s the target now. Since we’ve been in Step Five, we haven’t had a complete month where we’ve gone unbeaten, you’ve got to keep giving the lads something to bite on.

“I’d win, lose and draw with this team because they’re a good bunch of lads, we’ve got a small squad but we know now we’ve got a winning culture. We do need one or two in the summer but there’s a positive that we only have a few to bring in for next season, we have genuine belief in the lads and when you have that, you’re winning and it’s half the battle.

“We have a battle on our hands and finish in that top 10, it’s what we want, we’ve got to go to the Isle of Man. It’s a massive game to play for the final day, we’re down the bare bones because it’s the end of the season, players are away and made plans so maybe going there light.

“You’ve been looking below you in the last two seasons, to be fighting above – no matter how hard it was going to be – we pushed hard to get where we wanted to be.

“We wanted a top eight finish but we knew Charnock Richard, Colne and Irlam had games in hand, we’ve been able to hold them off but Charnock have gone above us. Colne have games in hand and tough schedules but we’ve got to go to Isle of Man, beat them, and secure that top 10 spot.”
