Gary Moore reflects on Lower Breck campaign after rollercoaster North West Counties Premier Division spell

Gary Moore is looking for Lower Breck to finish strong as they look to earn their highest league finish.

The Breck head into their final four matches of the season looking to cap a positive campaign on a high. Their strong mid-season run fired them in contention for the playoffs but they left their push too late with Chadderton, Padiham and Prestwich among those eying a spot.

In their last six, Breck have won twice and lost three times but in each of their defeats were edged out by a single goal. Although their push for the playoffs is still mathematically on, the clubs around them have games in hand but Moore reflected on results from earlier in the season.

“The belief was still there, while it was mathematically possible, but if you’re a realist, there was 36 available but if you won them all you still mightn’t get into the playoffs with other teams having games in hand,” he told Off The Park.

“There’s no shame in losing by a single goal, Bury beat us 2-1, Wythenshawe 1-0 and Cheadle 1-0, we’re in every one of the games and that’s the frustrating part but it isn’t where promotion is won or lost. It’s results across the season but on a whole, it’s a good season.”

Recent years have been difficult at Anfield Sports after their early season aspirations soon diminished and forced wholesale restructures throughout the campaign. Now, with the foundations laid, the Breck boss is looking to kick on with the current crop of players and some added quality to improve on their impressive season.

He said:” Every team sets out at the start of the season to have a successful one, it’s a long season so there’s always the opportunity for a late push but we got off to a slow start and had three back-to-back.

“The group we’ve had since December, we’ve added five or six experienced players to the group, we’re learning every week and we will finish as high as we’ve ever done, we’d like to finish in the top 10 – it’s going to be tough.

“We currently sit eighth and we’ve got to win games of football, on a whole it’s been a good campaign because we’ve been close in many games, we’re not far off it. If we can keep the group we’ve got, add to it, hopefully we’ve got a good group to go with it next season.

He added: “Pilkington come to us on Monday, a trip to Isle of Man then two more home games and try finish as strong as we can. We’ll have to patch a few lads up then head to Isle of Man, it’s a tough end because injuries are catching up now but we’ll get over the line and regroup in the summer. Four games to go, we’ll try to win them all.”
