FAN VIEW: City of Liverpool

Josh Quarless scores twice on his City of Liverpool debut

We’ve reached the half way stage of the season and with the busy festive period coming, Off The Park spoke to City of Liverpool fan Sam Pearson.

Thoughts on the season so far?

it’s been a good 1st half to the season all things considered. We got the furthest we have ever been in the FA Cup in our history and are comfortably mid-table in the league despite having a lot of injuries.

Went about eight or nine games were every player on the bench was carrying some form of knock so we barely had 11 fit players. Had a bit of a dip in form because of that but we have added some quality into the squad to correct that.

Worst moment of the season & why?

Probably getting beat by Buxton in the FA Cup. Furthest we have ever reached in the competition, lots of excitement especially as we beat a team 2 leagues above in the previous round. By half time Buxton were 4 up and looked like they hadn’t broken a sweat. We just couldn’t get near them.

Best moment of the season?

Been a few good moments. Freddie Potter winner against Bootle, beating Farsley Celtic 3-0 in the FA Cup. But it’s got to be going to Prescot and sticking 6 past them! And they were lucky it wasn’t more! And the cherry on top it kept them in a relegation battle. Lovely stuff.

Signing of the season?

I could of went with Josh Quarless who has come in and just started banging in goals. He has rightly been receiving a lot of praise for that. But for me its Danny Taberner.

A ridiculously good keeper we got from Atherton Colls who regularly makes worldie saves look normal. Him coming in and stopping us from leaking goals is the foundation for our good run of form recently.

Current player of the season & why?

The current player of the season is Jay Edgar. He was quietly putting in MOTM worthy performances in midfield all season but since Burkey has been out injured he has stepped it up and seems like he has taken on a bit more responsibility in midfield and for me is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Realistic ambitions for the rest of the season

For the rest of the season, I think realistically a top-half finish. Ello maintains high standards and we have enough quality to beat the teams in and around us on our day so we should be looking to break into that top 10. Unrealistically a late charge to the playoffs. Stranger things have happened. But who knows if we get a good run going and a few results go our way… then maybe.
