FAN VIEW: Burscough

Josh Quarless scores for Burscough in the North West Counties but now plies his trade with City of Liverpool in the Northern Premier League West.

We’ve reached the half way stage of the season and with the busy festive period coming, Off The Park spoke to Burscough fan Pete Hill.

Thoughts on the season so far?

At time of writing we find ourselves in third place following a hard fought victory at The Community ground against a strong Congleton side.

The season took a while to ignite as we had four points on the board after 4 games. No arguments either, as other than a good second half in the opener at Macclesfield, a decent first half against Ashton Athletic and crashing out of the FA Cup in an abject first half at Macclesfield where we were four down at halftime.

Following a change of manager – Paul Bowes– taking over as caretaker manager – marked an upturn in our fortunes…as the club went through September unbeaten – winning the Club of the Month as we started to climb the table.

We were still prone to second half “switch offs” and, on several occasions, lost or drew games from winning positions.

What became apparent was the incredible team spirit and work ethic that “Bowzer” was generating amongst our Heroes in Green.

This was evident in the hard graft the team put in to beat Congleton.

Worst moment of the season & why?

Crashing out the FA Cup away at Macc in a nightmare, error-strewn first half. We were hoping for a cup run and hoped that the salubrious surroundings of the Moss Rose would inspire. Sadly it didn’t.

Best moment of the season?

Wining 2 – 0 away at Congleton. Best all-round team performance…until the 5- 1 home demolition of Wythenshawe. So the Wythenshawe one it is.

Signing of the season

Tough one this. Let’s go with Tom Williams. He can tackle. He can pass. He can attack. He can score goals and he can create. What’s not to like?

Current player of the season & why?

Dec Daniels. A wholehearted, hard-working player who quietly gets on with it. And for old those goals he scores too. Obviously.

Realistic ambitions for the rest of the season

Currently overachieving. I don’t expect us to win the league although I am pretty sure that the lads will have a proper go. Second would be good but is a big ask but I would not write us off…
