FAN VIEW: AFC Liverpool

AFC Liverpool manager Chris Anderson has praised Avro ahead of their clash in the North West Counties Premier League this weekend.

We’ve reached the half way stage of the season and with the busy festive period coming, Off The Park spoke to AFC Liverpool fan, Alan.

Thoughts on the season so far?

A record-breaking start to the season as we (AFC) reach the last 32 in the F.A. Vase for the first time ever. League form okay as we settle back into the Premier League NWCFL. Finding some consistency now. Confidence is high going into Christmas and New Year with reasons to be excited moving forward.

Worst moment of the season & why?

Losing to Bootle in the F.A. Cup to a late own goal after dominating the second half, coming back from two down to equalise before losing 3-2. Gutted! Lessons learned for future cup games to come.

Best moment of the season?

Beating the much-fancied Newton Aycliffe in the F.A. Vase, coming from one down to win 2-1 playing good hard-fought cup football. Really gave the lads belief that they could put together a meaningful cup run

Signing of the season

The signing of the season has to be Jack McGovern an experienced Goalkeeper of proven ability who has given confidence defensively and helped set the foundations for a successful season.

Current player of the season & why?

If pushed I’d have to say Jack McGovern again. He’s changed the mindset in the dressing room and experience has rubbed off on the young players

Realistic ambitions for the rest of the season

Realistic ambitions for the rest of the season – has to be to as far as we can in the F.A. Vase, the old cliche of taking each game as it comes is very much the case with a visit to Abbey Hey on 15/1/22 for a place in the last 16 – a huge game indeed. In the league, a top-half finish would be good. One thing for certain is that the start of 2022 is going to be very exciting one way or the other for AFC Liverpool. YNWA!
