City of Liverpool captain Nathan Burke and Glenn Rule will be caretaker manager’s for their FA Cup First Round Qualifying trip to Dunston UTS.

The Purps booked their place in the next round in dramatic fashion when James Steele secured his hat-trick with a last-gasp winner in a 4-3 win over 10-man Ramsbottom United.

They will travel to the North East without former manager Michael Ellison after he and his management team were relieved of their managerial duties in the aftermath of their derby defeat to Bootle.

Goals from Ben Hodkinson and Connor Millington secured a comeback win over City of Liverpool consigning them to a fourth straight league defeat which left them at the foot of the Northern Premier League West table.

Both the skipper and his midfield partner, Rule, will be in the dugout for their FA Cup clash after taking training on Thursday.

Rule would’ve missed the clash through injury and his brother’s stag do but is cutting it short and will jet directly from Spain back to England for their trip to Gateshead.

City of Liverpool were taking applicants for their first-team manager’s role and are hoping to have a new manager in place for their trip to Colne on Tuesday, Off The Park understands.
