City of Liverpool 0-3 Glossop North End: Etia double punishes poor Purps

City of Liverpool vs Glossop North End Match Report

A Moses Yoak’s free-kick and Jacques Etia’s double helped Glossop North End to an important three points as City of Liverpool’s unbeaten run came to an end.

The powerful midfielder scored the pick of the bunch after his dipping free-kick left Graeme McCall rooted to the spot.

Stuart Mellish’s side ran out winners after three second-half goals moving the visitors out of the bottom four.

The Purps endured a torrid evening at home with Mackenzie Chapman forced into action just a handful of times.

Conditions throughout day made for a soggy and greasy surface causing difficulty for both defences.

In the early exchanges, Paul McNally’s side were denied by the post. John McGrath worked hard to win the ball back, he fed Michael Simpson whose cross by the byline deflected onto the far post.

But it was the visitors’ turn to apply pressure and almost stunned the Purps early on. A mix-up at the back allowed Sekuba Sanogo down the flank, his cutback found a fellow orange shirt but Adam Hughes made an important block on the line.

City of Liverpool fought back with a spell of pressure of their own with Jack Hazlehurst having the best opportunity. McGrath crafted the opportunity after floating a cross towards the back post but the Purps number 10 failed to steer a header home.

Glossop, who won the toss, had the wind in their favour for the second half and just three minutes after the break they were in front. A looping ball caused problems in the box for the hosts and it came to Etia who squirmed the ball home.

Neither side could fashion a clear-cut opportunity but a five-minute two-goal salvo in the latter stages.

Yoak fired over the wall into the top corner from a free-kick at the edge of the box. Minutes later, the North End number four was involved again, he burst through on goal forcing McCall to make a save one-on-one but Etia was on hand to fire home to rubber stamp the win.

Chapman sprung into action to push Nathan Burke’s bobbling effort past the post either side of the quickfire goals for Glossop but Mellish’s side round out comfortable victors in the end and their roars at full-time proved its importance.
