Burscough's Danny Brady in action against AFC Liverpool

Burscough manager Paul Bowes praised his side as they overcame the previously in-form side in the North West Counties Premier Division.

George Lomax grabbed two and was lauded by the Linnets boss as he edges closer to reaching his best form.

Thomas Williams, Dec Daniels and Luke Denson all contributed as Wythenshawe Town were dispatched by five goals to one.

It sees Burscough continue their surprising rise under Bowes as they mix with the top end of the Premier Division.

After two frustrating draws to Ashton Athletic and Barnoldswick, the Linnets manager was ecstatic with the performance as the enjoy a week off.

“It was a great performance from our lads, I said last week we needed to bounce back from the two draws where we should’ve got three points and we never. It proves just how good they can be on their day,” he told Off The Park.

“It shows as a squad they can do higher, we can push against the higher sides in league, Wythenshawe are up there. Across the two games we’ve played them they’re probably one of the best sides we’ve played and the table doesn’t lie, they are a very good side.

“The weather conditions were harsh, both teams have to play in it, there was no excuses from their manager either I spoke to Kinsey [James Kinsey], he said to me the next day ‘you’ve done us there, the game plan worked perfectly’.

“I think George Lomax was unbelievable, we’re starting to see the best of him again, the George Lomax of old. Dec Daniels again, even with a couple of lads missing, the depth of the squad just shows how good it is and how far they can go, they can do whatever they want as long as they stay dedicated, see how they do next year.

“Both draws were frustrating, especially the Ashton one being 2-0 ahead and dropping points. We scored first again on Saturday then conceded a couple of minutes later and I thought ah here we go again but the lads knuckled down and got the win.

“They just ground Wythenshawe down, they worked hard off the ball, sharp and defending was brilliant. We’ve got Jack Fleming back add a bit more experience, Tom McNamara another experienced lad who’s been around, going to do us a favour for the second half of the season.”
