Positive signs for Burscough despite Irlam defeat

Burscough celebrate their goal against Congleton

Burscough manager Paul Bowes was heartened after his side’s defeat to 2-1 defeat to Irlam.

Despite another loss on their record, the Linnets manager was pleased with the improvement he saw from his side.

On another day, Burscough could’ve left Irlam with three points but Millen Brown’s winner seven minutes from time meant another defeat.

It’s back on the road for Bowes’ side as they travel to Avro, despite the quality in their opponent’s squad, he believes it’s a winnable match.

“I seen a massive improvement from the last few games; we played well for 85 minutes and switched off twice, but the two goals are both avoidable, stuff we can work on – stuff we have worked on,” Off The Park.

“The weekends harder because we’ve got Avro, who are a very good side, but massive improvement against Irlam, even attitude-wise. We looked like the better side for 85 minutes.

“I thought we played well, Irlam had three or four shots on goal and scored two, we’ve nine, 10, 11 and scored one.

“They had Scott Reid in goal who’s he had a worldy of a game. We just couldn’t hit a barn door, the shape, the attitude, defensive was good just two switch offs and two goals – can’t complain really.

“They’re a top, top side. They’re well organised, they’re probably the side we aspire to be in the next three years, they’ve got older head, there’s a lot of experience in the squad, they have a certain way of playing and stick with it no matter what.

“It’s going to be a hard test, it’s a test but it’s one they can pass, if they stay concentrated and listen to what me and Luke are telling they’ll be alright.”
