Burscough gathering momentum as Dave Dempsey left optimistic

Burscough player celebrates

Dave Dempsey believes Burscough are moving in the right direction following their recent run.

Linnets still sit third from bottom but with clear daylight between themselves and relegation-threatened Skelmersdale United.

Burscough have picked up five points from their last six, including draws with title-chasing Bury at Gigg Lane and Skelmersdale United.

For Dempsey, the signs have been positive and the recent run has left him content as he feels players can now play with the intention of solidifying their place in the team next season.

“I’ve been happy with our output bar the Cheadle Town game. We played some good football against West Didsbury and I don’t think the scoreline reflected the game, missed some crucial chances at good times, then beat Squires Gate, a draw against Bury – which is as good of a result as we’ve have had all season,” he told Off The Park.

“We played Skem and got a point, which put us in a good position, I’m not made up with the results but I’m not annoyed. We’ve taken steps in the right direction in terms of solidifying our place in the league next year and allowing us to build for next season. I feel like we’ve had a half-decent month.

“We’ve brought in lads who are at training every week, we’ve had to look at it slightly differently and put a squad together that we can work with until the end of the season then players are playing to stay with us beyond this season. I’m content with the work we’ve done, it’s about letting the lads settle now and seeing how many points we can pick up.

“Every game is winnable, there’s no team that will go on and win every game in the season. If you’re on your game, you can pick up points, I’m not into looking at other clubs – It’s all about us and how we perform,” Dempsey added on their upcoming run which consists of Prestwich Heys, Litherland REMYCA and Colne.

“The next three games, you’d look at them and all paper they’re all in a really good run of form; Prestwich fifth in the league, Remy on a good run and Colne have a got a hell of a lot of threat, they’ll be tough but we won’t be going there, damage limitation, and settle for a point, we’ll be looking to win as many games as we can.”
