Bootle confirm David McNabb as new manager following Steve McNulty resignation

Warrington Rylands manager David McNabb

David McNabb has been appointed as the new Bootle manager.

The former Warrington Rylands and Macclesfield boss returns to management to take over at Vesty Road following the resignation of Steve McNulty

Tim Lees, who joined him with the Silkmen, will return as his assistant manager at the Bucks.

McNabb has an eye-catching CV after winning back-to-back promotions with the Gorsey Lane outfit as they rose through the North West Counties before winning the Northern Premier League West title on the final day of the season last year.

He started the campaign at the Blues before ‘mutually agreeing’ to part ways bringing his four-and-a-half-year stint to an end.

Following the sacking of Danny Whittaker in October, McNabb with Lees took charge of the high-flying Cheshire side but stepped down from their managerial roles in September.

The new Bootle boss is set to take first-team training ahead of the visit of Colne this weekend. They sit 14th with six games remaining in the Northern Premier League West.

Six points separate them and the bottom four going in the closing stages of the season with the Bucks set to face Mossley, Trafford, Prescot Cables and Skelmersdale United before rounding their campaign off against Glossop North End at home on April 22.

It is the third management team in the dugout at the Berry Street Garage Stadium this season following the sacking of Brian Richardson in August. The former Cables manager spent 11 months at the club following Joe Doran’s decision to step down.

He was replaced by the former Tranmere Rovers and Luton Town defender but his time came to an end this week after just two league wins in 2023.
