Billy Paynter is hoping for a reaction following Runcorn Linnets’ 2-1 defeat at home to City of Liverpool.

The Linnets boss was complimentary of the Purps following the loss, admitting that the visitors were deserving of the three points.

A trip to Chasetown beckons, a team that inflicting a losing start to the season for last year’s beaten playoff finalists. As it stands, Linnets sit fourth, four points off Leek Town at the top, level on points with fifth-place Stalybridge Celtic and just two points ahead of the chasing pack.

Paynter hopes his side can bounce back after failing to turn up at home. He told Off The Park: “We went in front but it was against the run of play.

“We didn’t get on the ball enough, we were flat, didn’t create many chances but you’ve got to give credit to City of Liverpool, I felt they were the better team on the day, created better chances.

“I said before the game, City of Liverpool are in a false position and we didn’t turn up, we’ve lost points in and around the bottom half which is disappointing.

“It’s a chance to bounce back, hopefully there is a reaction. I keep saying it after a defeat, the lads have responded so I’m hoping that happens again on Saturday, Chasetown won’t be easy, we played them at the start of the season and they’re a big, physical side, well organised and will make it difficult for us.

“We have got quality in the side and if we’re on it, results have shown we can beat teams.”
