‘We found a way’ – AFC Liverpool looking to finish strong after ending winless run

AFC Liverpool manager Chris Anderson

AFC Liverpool manager Chris Anderson was left delighted as his side returned to winning ways in the league and booked their place in the next round of the Macron Cup.

Jordan Monthe, Callum Schorah and Kyle Samboe all found the back of the net as the Reds ended their wait for a North West Counties Premier Division win as they overcame Longridge Town.

They followed it up with a solid win over Isle of Man FC in midweek where the Schorah and Samboe found themselves on the scoresheet again, booking their place in the next round of the cup against Runcorn Town.

Anderson told Off The Park: “It’s a win and clean sheets, any manager would welcome. Saturday was one of those, we changed personnel, we had some young lads come in who gave us energy and listened to instructions.

“I think we rode our luck a little bit but at the same time, we deserved the win as well, if they would’ve scored it wouldn’t have been something they didn’t deserve but I believe we deserved to win the game.

“Moving into Isle of Man, they weren’t at full strength, I don’t think we played particularly great but we found a way to win, scored two goals at home and kept a clean sheet so two in two, hopefully bodes we’ll for the remaining games of the season.

“It extends our season by another game. We play Runcorn Town two times in a week, I’m sure they will be good games, we will see how we fare on the night.

“Irlam [are having an] up and down season but in the right areas of the league. We beat them 4-0 and that was probably the first game we’d won in a few last time. Hopefully we can put in a similar performance and get the result that we need to secure our place in mid-table.”
