Still “early days” for AFC Knowsley ahead of early top of the table clash

AFC Knowsley manager Chris Jones is under no illusions that their upcoming match against Broadheath Central will be easy.

AFC Knowsley manager Chris Jones is under no illusions that their upcoming match against Broadheath Central will be easy.

His side have won their opening four and lead at the top of the table with a 100 per cent record.

Broadheath come into the match in second, three points off the pace after their defeat last time out to Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds.

A hard-fought win over Billinge ensured that Knowsley remained unbeaten in the league thanks to goals from Sean Coults and Daniel Atkins.

Jones admitted that despite the great start to the season, it is far too early to assume the league is in the bag.

“It’s far to early to be looking at positions in the table we are four games into the season it’s still very early days, Broadheath have had a great start to the season themselves and we know how tough the game will be but we just need to keep focusing on ourselves and look to keep improving every game.

“For us it’s just about trying to keep putting good performances in and hopefully the results keep reflecting that.

“We have had three clean sheets in our first four games and that’s something we are obviously keen to keep going and give our forward lads the platform to go and win us the games.

Despite four wins from four, there is still room for improvement for the league leaders.

“We had a really sloppy half hour in our last game against Billinge so we will be looking to avoid that again.

“We have also created lots of chances in the first four games and if I’m nit picking we need to be more clinical in front of goal but that said the positives far outweigh any negatives so far this season and we are looking forward to every game.”
